The annual Shelter Island Snapper Derby on Saturday August 29th, 2009 is just weeks away and marks the unofficial end of summer here on Shelter Island. August is a busy month with the fireman chicken barbarcue, arts and crafts show along with the snapper derby. This will be one of the last days to spend great time with your duagthers and sons together fishing for snapper. This annual event has a large turnout and at the end of the day, you can fry your snapper for a great meal. Check out the rules and have a great time.

Competition is now open for the design of the 2010 Snapper Derby logo. The two(2) winners will have there logos displayed on this web-site and it will be used on next years t-shirts. All you have to do is create a logo on plywood that has a white background. You can get the plywood blanks at Oh's Gas Station located on route 114 just north of the medical center. Use those blanks and paint away. We will post some or all, depending on the turnout, on this web site, so you can judge for yourself.
